Tips to be the best holiday host

The holidays are a time for family get togethers and christmas parties, and I bet you have wondered about how to “sleigh” the hosting gig you’ve been assigned this year. Whether it’s simply hosting your close family, or all of your extended family and then some, here are some simple tips to make you the best host and keep your sanity!

1. Get your home holiday ready! You don’t have to go buy any extravagant decorations, just by simply putting on some holiday music, and lighting some candles, you can create a welcoming holiday ambiance for your guests. EXTRA TIP: Make a long holiday playlist so you aren’t shuffling CDs or searching YouTube for holiday songs.

2. Prepare ahead of time as much as you can. The more time you spend preparing while your guests are in the other room, the less time for socializing and showing off your hosting skills. Chop your veggies, create your salads, and bake those cookies prior to your guests arriving. EXTRA TIP: Now may not be the best time to try that new recipe you’ve been debating.

3.Have some activities. This one is huge, especially if your home will be filled with excited children. Have a coloring station, game center, or set up a dance floor away from the main area. The kids can use their energy with fun and games and be hungry and settled once it’s time to eat. EXTRA TIP: Have a craft center and have each kid make their parents a special Christmas craft. Kids stay busy and parents get a keepsake.

Tis the season!

It’s that time of year again, festive get-togethers, family visits, and holiday decorating!

Here are a few tips to keep your family and home safe during the holiday season:

1. Be careful when selecting a tree. Real or fake, they both can be prone to catching fire. Ensure your real tree is consistently watered and make sure your fake tree is fire retardant.

2. If you like the ambiance of candles, try using battery operated, flame less candles. They can make the space look beautiful without posing the hazard                                                                           of actual flames.

3. Remember to never connect more than one extension cord together, it creates a chance for an electrical outlet overload which can be very dangerous!

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!!

Market Moderation

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. says the country’s real estate market is expected to moderate over the next two years as the growth in housing prices is expected to slow to more in line with economic fundamentals.

In its 2018 housing market outlook released today, the national housing agency projects housing starts and sales are both expected to decline in 2019 and 2020.

CMHC says it expects economic indicators like income and employment to continue to help support demand for housing starts, but these fundamentals are anticipated to slow down to a more sustainable pace.

Rising mortgage rates are also expected to affect housing demand and the resale market.

By 2020, CMHC anticipates demand will continue to shift towards relatively less expensive housing options like apartment condominiums versus higher-end single-detached homes.

“Over our forecast horizon, housing starts are projected to decline from elevated levels recorded recently. Resales should also moderate while house prices are expected to reach levels that are more in line with the fundamentals,” Bob Dugan, chief economist at the CMHC, said in a statement.
